Play Tennis is a simple, engaging Android tennis game with ample gameplay to keep players entertained for hours.

Gameplay and Style

Play Tennis offers a unique gaming style, more reminiscent of handheld games like World Cup Table Tennis, than the more detailed Android tennis simulators such as Virtua Tennis Challenge. The control system in Play Tennis is quite intuitive - the racket is 'held' in hand and moved around by swiping your finger across the screen.

Unlike other tennis games, no players are visible on the screen in Play Tennis, only the rackets. The player's racket is positioned at the bottom of the screen and the objective is to return every shot played by the opponent or force them into making an error. The game does not allow for much tactical play, for example, it does not have options to apply spin or play drop shots. The success in Play Tennis is heavily reliant on directing your shots out of the opponent's reach.

Presentation and Features

While Play Tennis may seem basic in comparison with other tennis games, it certainly does not fall into the 'Pong' category of tennis games. The courts are well designed, the ball physics change depending on the court surface, and the sound effects add a neat touch to the overall gaming experience. However, the game offers only two surfaces and the score announcing umpire seems to be inconsistent, only calling out the score occasionally.

The challenge in Play Tennis involves choosing a country and defeating all other nations in the game in a best of five matches. The next country can only be unlocked once the previous one is defeated.

Multiplayer and AI

Play Tennis does not offer online or WiFi multiplayer options. The AI of the computer opponent could use some improvement, as the CPU rarely plays the ball out of the court, but often misses very easy shots.

Play Tennis, while fun and absorbing, could use some additional polish to elevate it from a good Android tennis game to a classic one.
